Dayton v. Kennedy

Returning Senator Mark Dayton to the Ranks of the Idle Rich in 2006

Mark Kennedy Radio Appearence

Congressman Mark Kennedy, who officially announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for Senate in 2006 yesterday, appeared on the Dwight Rabuse show (a Saturday morning talk-show on AM 1280 – The Patriot) this morning.

He cited his frustration as a House member over lawsuit abuse reform - which passed the House but failed in the Senate by one vote - as an example of an issue that convinced him to run in order to change the Senate's obstructionism.

He also stated that Dayton's surprise announcement declining to seek re-election affected the timing of the announcement of his own intention to run, causing him to declare sooner than he had intended.

Asked whether he looks forward to a primary challenge, Kennedy stated that he believes it is important for the party to unify. He asked for that to happen soon. Toward that end, he said that we can expect to see Norm Coleman campaigning with him in the coming days.

Prompted by Rabuse to name his three largest priorities as a Senator, Kennedy named: winning war on terror, the economy, and Social Security.

After Kennedy's appearence, former Minnesota Education Commissioner Cheri Pearson Yecke called into the program and declared she was "very interested" in seeking Congressman Kennedy's 6th Disctrict House seat in 2006. Adding this was not an official announcement, but we could expect a statement one way or another very soon.
