Dayton v. Kennedy

Returning Senator Mark Dayton to the Ranks of the Idle Rich in 2006

Republican Congressional Candidates Lining Up in Mark Kennedy's Congressional District

A new story today in the Star Tribune: Bachmann to explore U.S. House bid

The story supports previous hints that two-term Republican State Senator Michele Bachman, of Stillwater, is considering running for Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District seat in 2006. The seat is currently occupied by Rep. Mark Kennedy.

As the Star Tribune notes:

She is one of several Republicans expected to get into the race if incumbent Rep. Mark Kennedy runs in 2006 against Democratic Sen. Mark Dayton. ...

Other Republicans exploring bids include former Education Commissioner Cheri Pierson Yecke and Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer. For the Democrats, Kennedy's 2004 challenger, Patty Wetterling, is talked about.
For those of you not familar with Minnesota Republicans, let me assure you these are not "B-list" names. Some of the Republican Party's best prospects for future office seem to be rushing toward the Sixth District.

But, as the article notes, this seat is only interesting to them if Kennedy runs for the Senate. Why so many A-list candidates gearing up for such an uncertain thing? Perhaps they don't consider it all that uncertain.
