Dayton v. Kennedy

Returning Senator Mark Dayton to the Ranks of the Idle Rich in 2006

State Trooper Union Chief: Mark Kennedy Blackmailed

As Gary described below, Minnesota State Patrol Trooper's Association (MSPTA) President Tim Jensen made some shocking allegations today in a newsletter to union members. While Jensen reserved his most vitriolic rhetoric for attacking the Taxpayers League of Minnesota, he also made specific allegations regarding some Minnesota politicians:

"It's time for politicians to admit they were blackmailed into signing a 'no new taxes' pledge."

One of the signatories of that very pledge? Rep. Mark Kennedy. Others include Governor Tim Pawlenty, Lt. Governor Carol Molnau, Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer, U. S. Senator Norm Coleman, and a whole host of other Minnesota legislators. The complete list is here.

Jensen's use of the word "blackmail" seems not to distinguish political advocates seeking accountability from politicians they support from actual blackmail, which is a crime. Frightening rhetoric from an influential law enforcement figure.

Needless to say, we will be following this story as it develops.
